Wendy’s Training Videos

These were floating around a few years ago, but never made it to The Black Laser. Well, the time is now!

Presented here for your viewing displeasure are three training videos created by Wendy’s in what looks like the early 90s. And my god are they terrible. They just reek of corporations raping popular culture turning things that were once cool (old school hip hop) into things that are really really not (rapping about sodas for a training video). And for Wendy’s to think that singing soulfully about adding cheese to chili is the best way to reach their new employees is pretty offensive too.

Yet, I love these things. The people in them are just so earnest. The guy and chick in the hot drinks and cold drinks videos respectively just feel like young, starving actors who got their first real job and are so psyched to be there that they could be asked to do anything and they’d do it. It’s kind of endearing, I think. I mean, watch the videos and tell me you won’t be humming the frankly awful songs the rest of the day. Try it. Go ahead. I dare you.

Sesame Street: 12 Little Chicks song

You know you remember my awesome friend Mandy of Akwarian Sea Rebel fame? Yeah, you totally do. Anyway, she recently collaborated with a friend of hers on this adorable video for Sesame Street. The task was to reimagine the 12345-678910-11-12 song (you’re singing it right now). I think the result is great. If I had kids I would force them to listen to this until they needed years and years of very expensive therapy.

Orca smokes a Great White and eats its liver.

I guess this barroom argument can be put to rest.

Info summarized from wikipedia.

Orcas: between 6 and 8 meters long, weighing in excess of 6 tons (male); between 3 and 5 meters long, weighing between 3 and 4 tons.

Great white sharks: between 4 and 6 meters long, weighing between 0.75 and 1.25 tons.

The orcas have a decent weight advantage if not a real length advantage. But we’re talking about a god damned great white shark here, not some idiot school of herring.

My favorite part of the video is that the orcas just rip the shark’s liver out and let the rest sink. Like a giant, “Fuck you, enormous predatory fish! Mammals for life!”

The Onion – Pop Star’s Single, ‘Booty Wave’, Most Likely Civilization’s Downfall

Pop Star’s Single, ‘Booty Wave’, Most Likely Civilization’s Downfall

Yet again The Onion hits the nail square on the head. Mocking the increasingly trashy pop stars of our day and age, the clip just kills it with every line. Incredible, sad, and funny. Horrifying, really, in its absolute truth. Although, I am pretty confident that the fake video in the above talk show clip is actually less insipid than the Alexandra Stan video I’m posting below.

Surprising right? With the lengths The Onion went to make their parody as ridiculous as they could they could still not top the bad taste of some shitty Eastern European producer and his overly made-up 5 of a pop starlet.

I’ve always wanted a dude in a utilikilt to build me a fire-breathing robot pony.

There are, you will notice, in fact TWO utilikilts in this video.

Here’s what they have to say about it.

For Maker Faire Detroit 2011, I displayed a hack I made to a FurReal Friends Butterscotch Pony. My fellow LVL1 Hackers and I had taken control of the motor control system of the toy and added a flame thrower to it. It seemed to go over really well with the crowd, so I am putting up the information for anyone to make there own. It was a blast to make and I hope everyone has as much fun remaking it. Just remember that this project uses Fire and should only be built and operated by no less then 2 adults with appropriate experience in fire safety and proper fire safety equipment on hand.

And holy fuck, they’ve published instructions.

UTILIKILTS! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! This post might have contributed my favorite new post tag, though: Fire-breathing pony robot. I’ll have to think of other moments to use it.
