LA is basically the worst place in the world for metal.

You read the headline. LA fucking sucks for good metal. Sure, it has its occasional standouts (early Fear Factory for one), but so much of what gets produced there is such filth that I want to claw my eyes out and drop a fucking bomb on the place. Worse is that there are bands from other places that emulate the LA scene and spread the cancer of shitty ass metal around the country.

Don’t believe me? Here’s an example of what LA brings to the metal scene.

What the fuck, LA. Fuck you and your bullshit. This is the worst thing ever.

Let me help you cleanse your palette a little with this gem by a band from about as far away from LA as you can get.

So much better.

Disagreed! I mean, yeah, whatever that video was, fucking sucked. And yeah, I imagine there are tons of L.A. mallcore bands who are beloved by their LA-based major labels and tweeny fans and vice-versa (though I can’t verify this because I refuse to research such worthless music).
BUT… L.A. made me very happy metal wise, especially black metal. There are at least 4 record stores in LA County with sizeable “Unholy Metal” sections that helped me get into alot of stuff I otherwise might not have.
L.A. is the home of Xasthur (technically Alhambra, I suppose, but whatever), hated by many, beloved by me. It’s also home to Lightning Swords of Death, Valdur (technically they’re from up in the mountains but they play in LA all the time), and Sumeria, whose “All Paths Lead to Insanity” album is a USBM gem. There’s also Harassor.
It’s a tougher selection with death metal I guess. But there’s fucking Sadistic Intent, who rule. I’m drawing a blank otherwise. Was gonna say Cattle Decapitation, but they’re from San Diego… OH WELL.

Also, now that they’re re-formed: ST. VITUS

Tell me what you think.
