The Young Professionals’ “D.I.S.C.O.”

I know, I know. You’re thinking, “Man where have I seen that dude in drag before????” I thought the same thing. Then I remembered. It was in this video.

Whew. Mystery solved.

With that out of the way, let’s talk a little about the video and song by The Young Professionals. These guys are a couple of synthpop nerds from Tel Aviv (I think) who, according to the video, dress sharply and have a thing for Robert Palmer. The track has some Scissor Sisters thingie going on, but a lot synthier, which is cool. Check it out, enjoy it, dance, shake that ass, do whatever. It’s all good.

On a side note, do you remember when you used to get intelligent discourse here on The Black Laser? No? Yeah, neither do I. Just wanted to make sure you weren’t confusing me with some other website.

Will someone please remove my gallbladder.

Man, I was on my way over to here to post about how Jayherrod1 is SO last year and how slipoka is the new hot shit, but then I saw this video and realized that I am full of crap. Jayherrod1 will never, ever, in a million billion years (no hyperbole) be anything but the single most amazingly insane Youtube video contributor of all time forever and ever and ever.

REMOVE MY GALLBLADDER!? Oh my god. I fucking LOVE this guy. He’s so nuts.

A couple more gems below.

Mind that these were all posted within the last week. And do you want to see the absolute best one?

Earth to Selena Gomez! Earth to Selena Gomez!

Kenny Powers: MFCEO

Now THIS is viral advertising done 100% correctly. I feel like a lot of times people want their work to “go viral” but are afraid to take risks and make the work as forward and unrepentant as it needs to be to “go viral”. The bland video of some people doing whatever is never going to resonate the way a video of some fat lady falling off a table or a man dressed as a cat licking your finger or a drunken horrifying dwarf singing will.

K-Swiss really knocked it out of the proverbial park with this one. Uncompromising and hilarious. Sure, I’m not going to go out and buy K-Swiss products, but someone else will and that’s what matters.

The Budos Band’s “Unbroken, Unshaven”

Staten Island’s best funky fusion whatever the hell you’re going to call them, The Budos Band has dropped this video for their track “Unbroken, Unshaven” from their record The Budos Band III. I think I got the record from my friend Michael (but I am unsure), but I listened to the hell out of that album last year. It’s funky, fresh, analog, and dancey, yet has this unmistakable dark edge to it I find quite appealing. It’s really great.

And then they show up with this stylish music video you think is going to be a simple homage to cheese cowboy flicks but turns into this sort of cowboy-styled opening to a James Bond movie, Casino Royale in particular. Super cool work.

Hate Eternal’s “Lake Ablaze”

You read me blather on about how great Hate Eternal is last week, and now you have an opportunity to hear them as The Devil intended. Holy shit, this band is tight. And, luckily for you, you can actually hear what they’re doing in this track unlike the self-shot videos I posted before.

Enjoy. And try not to have a seizure while watching this video. I doubt there’s a single shot in it that’s longer than a second.

The Red Chord’s “Demoralizer”

I love this song and I love the record, Fed Through The Teeth Machine, from which is came. The Red Chord is a god damned good band.

Then why this ridiculous and, frankly, terrible music video?! Did they lose a bet? “Hey, The Red Chord, I bet you guys can’t convince Lady Gaga to open for you. If you don’t you have to make a terrible video for a great song from a great record.” “CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.” I guess they didn’t convince her. OOPS.

Let’s see what’s bad about it.

Crappy animation? CHECK.
Overuse of crappy filters? CHECK.
Band in a warehouse? CHECK.
Silly story? CHECK.
Utter lack of motivation behind concept? CHECK.

Look, this is not the worst video I’ve ever posted here. Not by a long shot. But it’s still pretty fucking bad. Do yourself a favor: hit play and then click over to another tab. That way you just get the song.

Big Freedia’s “Excuse”

Oh Christ, do I even need to say anything about this?! You all know how I feel. Just watch the video. Learn to shake that azz from the Queen Diva herself. SHEEEEEEIIIIT.

Metronomy’s “The Bay”

This video is amazing. It might be perfect. There is not a single thing I would change. Even better, I found myself constantly impressed by the directorial and editorial choices. Super solid work from Colonel Blimp, a production company that’s made some of my favorite music videos. Consistently excellent work. And the song’s pretty good too!

Finally, who knew that there is a place in England that looks like this? I must go. IN THE WINTER.
