You know, I have to admit that I was underwhelmed by Uffie’s album. After a bunch of hot as fuck tracks on various Ed Banger compilations, I had high hopes for her debut. “Pop The Glock”, her first song to hit the ol’ interwebs, was fine, but not all that interesting. But then she came along and dropped “Robot Ouef”, “Ready to Uff”, and “Dismissed” and I was a fan. She was edgy and mean and fucking dropping some hot aggro electro shit that was fucking awesome.

Then Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans came out filled with fairly bland electro pop shit with some absolutely banal rapping on it. Not bad, exactly, but definitely boring. Especially when compared to the fucking holy trifecta of banging Uffie tracks mentioned above. The album tracks lack energy. They harken back to the original “Pop The Glock” style, rather than pushing the later, edgier style forward. It was a mistake I think.

So, I’m not a huge fan of the song, but I dig the video. And I hope that Uffie regains a little edge for her sophomore effort. I’m willing to cut her a little slack here in light of her previously awesome work. But if the next record comes out and it’s more of this boring shit, consider my fandom over.

Uffie’s “ADD SUV”

I’ve written about Uffie before. I’m a fan. In good news, she finally has a full length record coming out. This is the first single from that forthcoming record. I’m pretty psyched about it. Check it out.

You know, I want to like this SO BAD—it’s got everything, lasers, geekiness, TRON, garish colors, electrobeats—but I just don’t. I don’t know what it is. Oh wait…yes I do. It’s homeboy’s bullshit rapping and weird, totally inappropriate, faux-ghetto hip-hop posturing. Am I reading this wrong? Is it, like, totally ironic or whatever and I’m just not getting it? I think not. I think that, for as perfect of a visual milieu this is for me, the music just sucks. They aren’t even good beats. And they rapping is sub standard. All these guys have going for them is style, and even that feels forced.

Maybe if they did a video in this style to the following track…

Yeah, you tell those fuckers, Scott Hull!
