Red Fang’s “Wires”

Though this video came out last week (two weeks ago??) and I saw it then—and enjoyed it immensely—there wasn’t an embeddable version to share with my legions of fans here on The Black Laser. But guess what!? There is now!

Red Fang are a Portland, OR band whose video for “Prehistoric Dog” and current record I posted for you people a while back. Unfortunately, the record is no longer streaming on NPR, but you can listen to it in its entirety on their bandcamp. Yay!

I also instructed you in the previous post to pick up a copy of Murder The Mountains because it is a solid slab of head-banging metal genius covered in a glistening sheen of cheap beer, hangovers, and sweat. If you’re having trouble imagining them and don’t want to just listen, imagine how The Sword would sound if they were less nerdy and had 50% bigger balls. Sounds awesome, right?

I don’t want to spoil the pure madness of the video above by giving you some limp-dick description, so I’ll just let you watch it for yourself. Needless to say, it’s one of the most entertaining videos I’ve seen in ages. Enjoy and buy their album in whichever format you prefer. I got it on vinyl.

Indubious Cosmic Seed

I don’t know who these guys are or what they’re about except kicking out hot Reggae jams from their home planet of Oregon, but my wonderful, old friend Deegan produced and mixed this record for them. Check them out.

Indubious’ homepage

Aside from spending a few days three years in a row at Reggae on the River in youth, this is not exactly my scene or the type of music I prefer to blast when I need to work or write or relax or get pumped up. But, some people really like it and who am I to begrudge them that? Like what you like, I think, just don’t ever make me listen to Dave Matthews Band or that one song by the Kings of Leon. Ugh.

Apparently these gentlemen also have some sort of deal Dutch Brothers, the drive through coffee chain in the Pacific Northwest. Isa hyped them up super hardcore when I was up there this summer, but I was sadly disappointed to discover that their coffee was extremely forgettable. At best. But it’s cool that these guys have the hook up, low quality coffee or not; you’ve got to promote yourself however you can these days.

Go checkout their music and buy a cd or something. Awesome.

Christina’s Graduation from University of Oregon, 6/13/2009

Here are a few of the photos I took while in Oregon. They are mostly uninspired I think, but some of them are nice. I don’t know, I guess I just wasn’t on those days. I really just wanted to get these up since they’ve been sitting on my computer since June.

Here’s the whole gallery.

Christina’s Graduation, Eugene, OR Gallery – 6/13/2009

I have returned from Eugene, OR

I have returned from my trip in the wild, wooly western frontier. I was privvy to some of the best of what Northern California and Southern Oregon have to offer. Here are some highlights of the trip.

The Beer Stein, Eugene OR – Any serious beer fan owes it to themselves to check out this place if they are anywhere near Eugene, OR. They have precisely 1 million beers for sale from all over the world. Oh, did I mention their prices? Rock bottom. Charlie and I were dancing back and forth along their massive refrigerator walls trying to decide just how we were going to punish our livers next. This place is fucking amazing. It puts my beloved Brouwerij Lane here in Brooklyn to total shame. I even called stupid Jesse to tell him how awesome The Beer Stein was, but he didn’t pick up. Sucker.

Wolf Creek, OR – Though we only stopped in Wolf Creek for a few minutes to stretch our legs and get coffee on the long drive between home and Portola Valley, I was fortunate enough to see not one, but TWO men with knives on their belts. Wolf Creek is the kind of town that can be found anywhere across our great nation where the city fades out and people are left to fend for themselves. We could have been in Alaska or Alabama and Wolf Creek would have been exactly the same. The United States is not its New Yorks and San Franciscos; the United States is the Wolf Creeks across our land.

Black Bear Diner – You can find Black Bear Diners up and down I-5, between Washington state and the southwest states. I put it here not because the food is good (it isn’t), but because no where else have I seen so many awful puns in one place. I kid you not, I saw a waitress with a nametag that read, “Ambear”.

The maybe 3 good photos I took – They’re not ready yet. Be patient.

Amazing roadtrip games – These include, but are not limited to “3 People You Would Take On A Roadtrip”, “10 People You Would Invited To A Pool Party”, “I Like My Women Like I Like My…”, and “If You Had To Get A Phrase Other Than ‘Exit Only’ Tattooed On Your Lower Back Right Above Your Ass, What Would It Be?” One of my favorite answers for the 3 people on a roadtrip game was Charlie’s “Helen Keller”.

Troy pouring himself a beer in the closed hotel bar – That’s it.

Andy Stearns – Yes.

That the whole trip to Oregon can be summed up in these three photos –

All in all, I would say that it was a successful trip and that a good time was had by all. Keep your eyes peeled for some photos I took while up there.
